If your poor and starving you just dont count over top of profits. Today it was announced by the DFO that 100,000 cans of salmon seized in an illegal sale will be sold for profit instead of going to BC foodbanks as earlier promised.

The DFO expects to make around $100,000 from the sale and the money as of yet has not been earmarked. But rest assured they will spend it somehow. Forget that fellow Canadians may be starving and a few cans of salmon could go a long way to feed a hungry family.

Profits, profits, profits, the siren call of Corporate Democracy.

Sounds about right for the way everything is going. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Its not really changed much, except now they are starving all those who are out on the street because of all the massive cutbacks. Someone should give these people something we call a concience.

All I can say is this is quite typical of our government system. Everything is to maximize profits in any way possible. They dont care about the sick and the poor. They care about government and corporate earnings. Canadian Government doesnt care about the people, this has been demonstrated throughout history.

I don't think that our government hates us, it's just doing the job that their corporate masters demand. Who do you think is worse, provincial mandarins who lose and waste billions, or federal mandarins who waste and lose billions?

Wow! First post and you resurrect an 11 year old thread. That has to be a record.

Now, bow down to your corporate master and say 10 Hail Mary's and 5 Our Father's.

Good point; you should tell the gvt - nay, demand - that this is 'the peoples' canned salmon and declare it as such.

nationalized canned salmon... That'll show those corporate stooges in gvt!

Notice the quaint use of the pronouns "ours" and "yours" with respect to governments. Ours and yours don't own banks therefore can't afford governments. The effishenseas of private corporate governance has proven the science beyond all doubt. Ourcorp knows how to take care of things. Cheezeburgers were never so plentiful. Now on to serious stuff, how will our Olympic track and field team perform under nucleotide clouds?

Here's an idea. Instead of giving the poor and homeless free canned salmon, let's give them bus tickets to Alberta or Saskatistan. Teach a man to fish as they say

Yes! You can have all the welfare recipients Klein sent to BC back.

If they are only interested in welfare, they may as we'll stay in BC where the weather is nicer. If they're looking to improve themselves they would love it here and in pretty sure they would be welcomed with open arms

A greenie for effort- but a 'nay'
in practise. this was an example of the practises that doomed the Martin government.

The original link is dead, so I'm going from memory. There is a 'flow chain' from processor to retailer. Odd entry into the flow chain is inherently at a steep discount.

OTOH, canned fish is a 'premium good' for a food bank family that normally receives too much carbohydrate. The idea is to provide superior nutrition ,to enable people to leave the food bank system.

Of course the government hates us and the feeling is mutual.
Even the parties hate each other the idea behind a good election
is
Make sure as a party the people hate them more than they hate you.
If we loved our government we would not be true Canadians.
All good Canadians hate their government no matter who is in power.

If there's an issue to be identified with respect to the nature/character of the various governments elected by Canadians and one might say an expectation of service to the people of Canada would it be reasonable to suggest that this expectation is entirely similar to the expectations of multinational corporations funneling bundles of dollars into the coffers of political parties? If this is reasonable conjecture, how do these greed driven corporations maintain control over their various nabobs and mandarins? We can all agree I hope that investments are made with the intent of securing a handsome return. My point is that Canadians need to separate the photo-op and glad-handing at spade turnings and ersatz concern at charity events from their focus on the bottom line.

It's time MP' the PM and particular ministers were required to publish self-evaluation tests on a quarterly or semi-annual basis. Particulars of how much money went through these folks hands measured against the outcomes and impacts generated by their activities. No employee is left adrift to wonder if their performance meets their employers needs and why shouldn't these folk be given the same opportunity instead of waiting for some catastrophe that skews an election? Failure to publish would result in disqualification from future elections and reduced pension. When their term is up they're evaluated in a public forum and can take that opportunity to convince the electorate that their {officers of the the government} focus is directed where we their employers need as opposed to fulfilling their surreptitious fealty to corporate carpetbaggers.
