Should Canada help US attack Iraq?

In my opinion Canada has no right to join America in attacking Iraq. America gives the reason of the potential of Saddam using or giving away his few remaining bio or chem weapons. This coupled with the absolute lack of proof of any Iraqi involvement in Sept 11 is just absurd.
Dozens of countries keep and make bio and chem weapons, should we attack them too just because they MIGHT use them against America? Of course not. Iraq is as much a threat to the US as Canada is. they now have as a consequence of the gulf war a third rate military. the Iraqi citizens are starving and the economy basically does not exist, keeping them like that is more of a threat than Saddam is. The world community was in the right to boot Saddam out of Quwait as he had no right to occupy that country. But he has been beaten back, cornered and humbled.

If the Iraqi people were taken out from under the punishing embargo sanctions (which do NOTHING to hurt Saddam) they would sort out affairs for themselves. Who are we to dictate to them what to do and what course to take. The first world countries, namely the US should stay out of other countries affairs.
America is the biggest threat to the world right now, not Iraq.

Andem makes a very good point. America has made large inroads in securing alternative sources of oil other than that of the persian gulf states. Then what is the big reason for the war mongering?

Israel would love to see Saddam taken out as he openly supports the Palestinian cause. Saddam is the biggest supporter of the Palestinians in the Middle East by far and if America does Israels dirty work then Israel stands to gain. If Israel gains then so do American politicians who are on the Jewish National Congress payroll.

Others inside the American propaganda machine claim Saddam is a danger to the democratic way of life we in the west enjoy. What a bunch of BS. There has been no clear proof that Iraq or Saddam was in ANY way involved in Sept 11. There are no direct links between Osama and Saddam either. America is just looking to expand its influence on the one part of the world that has chosen to stand up against the US and their foreign policies. Dont get me wrong, Saddam is a rather bad guy, but this world is full of them. It should be left up to the people of Iraq to decide what they want for themselves. Lift the sanctions, give the people hope and a future and rest assured they will rise up. Keep em starved and without a real future and Saddam can keep control forever.

Cant those morons in the American heirachy see that an attack on Iraq with no international backing will make more enemies and more Osama's in the waiting? Maybe thats just what they want, a wider war.

Its a standard case of a 'schoolyard bully' pushing everyone else around, but we all know sooner or later, all bullies end up getting their @$$ kicked by someone else, or ultimately paying the price in the long run for all the bullying.

Im sure you could make a compelling argument for attacking Iraq as you could for not attacking Iraq. But its really something I think Canada should stay out of. We dont have many enemies right now, and I dont think teaming up with the United States would be a good idea.

The americans can be nice people. They can also be very kind. But attacking Iraq may not be the best choice. All it's worth is oil, and the americans truly do want control over the oil in that nation.

That is true in regards to somehow controlling america, but as Canadians there are things we can do to ensure we dont follow the folly the americans are about to committ. Canadians need to speak out and be heard to make sure Chretien does not join bonehead Bush in further destabilizing the Middle East. I can agree with the action of the PPCLI in Afghanistan as the Taliban were directly connected to killing Canadians on Sept 11, but again, there is just no clear proof Saddam was or will be part of that gang.

Bit of a side note, has anyone heard any reliable sources as to how many civilians have been killed in Afghanistan? I ask because that total would probably be very small to that the Iraqi civilians would face if america were to throw troops into Bagdad and Basra etc. Really how many innocents would have to die to kill one man?
American propaganda is spewing out they would be helping Iraqi people. Really? How? By destroying their infrastructure, their gov offices, their military and killing their children?

Canada was already in Iraq as well as supporting the US there. 4 warships were sent to the region. Canadians worked at US Central Command in Qatar. CAF pilots flew combat missions with USAF E-3 Sentries. They also flew C-17s into Iraq to "season" the flight crews. And about 150 Canadian soldiers on exchange with the British and US forces were in proximity to combat.

One last thing, Chretien was more than willing to commit a full compliment of troops to Iraq under UN command.
