Alberta should do the same.

Ontario boosts subsidies for electric car-buyers to up to $10,000

Ontario is jump-starting subsidies for motorists who buy elect‎ric vehicles in a bid to cut pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

The maximum incentive will rise to $10,000 from $8,500 and vehicles and with five or more seats will qualify for an extra $1,000, Premier Kathleen Wynne said Wednesday.

Vehicles with “larger battery capacities come with an additional grant of $3,000.

“With a growing population and expanding urban regions, transportation emissions pose one of our province’s greatest challenges in achieving our ambitious greenhouse gas pollution reduction targets,” Wynne said.

The government said it will also boost its funding to build more electric vehicle charging stations by $20 million.
Electric vehicles are a tiny portion of traffic on Ontario roads and highways — there are just 5,800 despite subsidies that have been available since 2010.

Where is the electric lawnmower subsidy or didn't ON invest in electric lawnmower manufacturing like they did autos that nobody obviously want?

Renewables mostly.

We don't really need oil anymore and it's bad for the environment.

Oh nice..some digging has revealed hybrid and EV sales are down 50% thanks to lower gasoline prices.

That means sales were financially driven and not because of "environmental concerns".

How much did Wynne invest in EV and hybrids?

Maybe it is time to diversify beyond autos and get real manufacturing?

Green killed that, now all you have is autos with the EV and hybrid sector of that tanking after dumping taxpayer money into it.

Wrong.

It was NAFTA and free trade.

I thought you were smart enough to realize that.

Nope.

The colour green did not kill manufacturing.

It was free trade with a country that allows for inhumanely low wages for manufacturing workers.

This is all well documented already.

When we ratify TPP it will finish the job.

No causation.

Free trade is dwindling though, and it's not surprising.

Nations are starting to realize the human cost is not worth it.
