Researchers settle dispute vs B.C. government, ex-health minister in firings scandal #bcpoli
A settlement has been reached in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit with two of the key players in B-C’s health firings scandal.
Former health ministry researchers Rebecca and William Warburton and five others were fired in 2012 after an alleged data breach.
The government later apologized for mishandling the issue and admitted the allegations had not been proven, but explained little else.
Some employees were rehired, while others launched legal action.
The government now says the two holdouts, the Warburtons, have settled in their dispute against the government and then-health minister Margaret MacDiarmid.
Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton says her staff are co-operating with the Office of the Ombudsperson to ensure a thorough investigation.
The Opposition and others targeted in the scandal have called for a public inquiry, which the BC Liberals have rejected.
