No, not like that.

It's more like the kind that would pick up on a $10,000 cheque floating around by one of your appointed senators that you somehow had no idea about.

Chump.

Ah, so like the $2.7 million the NDP misappropriated for their satellite offices. Or the $1.3 million for political leaflets.

Searchable by anyone, anytime, anywhere.

#Mulcair in #Ottawa says #NDP would create online database of federal spending that could be searched by Canadians.

That might work alright until something embarrassing happens. Like in another Dipper incarnation, when three f**ked up Fast Cats were purchased or the amount of money billed for doing work on some supporters deck in the moon light. :)

It would show all expenditures.

Whether they were misappropriations, or like in this case, they were not.

You're saying it shouldn't reveal NDP spending?

A dozen different ways. Surely you've noticed there are often a dozen ways of describing the same thing. And then there's the numerous methods of accounting and all the permutations and combinations of cost break downs. A "miscellaneous" column wouldn't be unheard of.

That I could support. I see it as a non partisan system to improve transparency. All voters and all parties should get behind this.

So I don't see it as an election issue. It doesn't matter who brings the bill forward, or who represents me, I would still send a letter to my MP telling him that I support this.

Wow. That is ****ing amazing. Now you won't have to download and read: http://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/recgen/cpc-pac/index-eng.html

The Public Accounts of Canada is the report of the Government of Canada prepared annually by the Receiver General, as required by section 64 of the Financial Administration Act. It covers the fiscal year of the Government, which ends on March 31.

The information contained in the report originates from two sources of data:

the summarized financial transactions presented in the Accounts of Canada, maintained by the Receiver General; and
the detailed records, maintained by departments and agencies.
Each department and agency is responsible for reconciling its accounts to the control accounts of the Receiver General, and for maintaining detailed records of the transactions in their accounts.

The Receiver General has published eleven datasets for the Public Accounts of Canada to the Government of Canada's Open Data Portal.

I think this is a damn good idea and they should break it down by Province and itemize every contract and purchase over $10,000 too.
