Comedian John Oliver poked fun at Canada for spending $24 million on a Senate audit that found $1 million in misspent funds.
"How the hell do you spend nearly $24 million auditing stamps and breakfasts?" he asked on the latest episode of HBO's Last Week Tonight.
"Canada, I think you've forgotten what a scandal is, and may I remind you that Rob Ford, your crack-smoking mayor, is still currently sitting on the Toronto City Council."
The former Daily Show comedian took aim at just how Canadian certain aspects of the audit were, airing a news clip about senators expensing fishing trips and hockey tickets.
"Wow, hockey tickets and fishing trips. This scandal couldn't be any more Canadian if public money was used to get Drake to drink maple syrup on Niagara Falls," he quipped.
Then Oliver got around to Sen. Terry Mercer, who was called out in the audit for expensing a trip to attend the 100th anniversary of his favourite Toronto curling club.
"A man named Terry going to a curling club anniversary? Kudos, Canada, you made this scandal more Canadian after I explicitly said that that could not be done. Well played."
