Levin to go directly to trial on chid-porn charges
By Joe Warmington, Toronto Sun

TORONTO - Former Ontario deputy education minister Ben Levin will be going to trial to defend himself against child pornography charges.
“Yes,” his lawyer Clayton Ruby said Thursday when asked if he requested that the case go directly to trial at this week’s preliminary hearing.
Levin, he indicated, will fight the allegations and plead not guilty.
“He pleaded not guilty to all counts and will be tried in Provincial Court,” said Ruby. “Dates to be set (Friday) morning.”
The 62-year-old Levin is a University of Toronto professor and was photographed on a float at the Pride Parade with Premier Kathleen Wynne and federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau prior to his July 2013 arrest.
As the Sun’s Michele Mandel reported in July 2013 “following an international online probe that police said was sparked by undercover child exploitation investigators in New Zealand, Levin initially faced ... two counts of distributing child pornography and one count each of making child pornography, counselling to commit an indictable offence and agreeing to or arranging for a sexual offence against a child under 16.” Two other charges of possessing and accessing child porn were added.
Wynne said at the time of the arrest that she was shocked by the charges.
“Insidious crimes like these are absolutely terrifying,” Wynne said. “The safety and well-being of our children has always been my absolute priority and at no time did I have any suspicion of criminal behaviour. I am confident that the police and judicial system will address these serious allegations.”
At the request of Ruby who asked for it to be sent straight to trial it is believed these serious allegations will be tested before the court sometime in 2015 or possibly 2016.

And it's not just the distribution and possession charges. He had an active hand in making it (allegedly of course) since they are charging him with making it too.

I do notice that Wynne basically throws him under the bus. If one truly believes the person is innocent, one does not say one is sure the justice system will handle the situation. Perhaps one does not profess innocence of others in politics.

yeah it seems very damning that an investigation done off shore results in enough evidence to charge someone with an arrest.

now if it were just his computer that was being used as evidence, yeah it could be hinky because they set up networks to bounce the signals all over the world which makes it difficult to follow

but I would imagine that this type of investigation would involve some pretty sophisticated means with very tech savvy investigators

as for Wynne and politicians they should learn to STFU about any criminal investigations or charges or the individuals involved, they are all so used to shooting their mouths off about situations and topics that they have little to no knowledge of that they can't help themselves

I agree that their psychopathy drives them. Although there is no cure at the time since it is a sexual attraction if they could self identify before perpetrating these crimes it would go a long way to diminishing child sexual abuse.

Righto, and if we pushed them off a very high bridge, no worries about their re-offending.. Think of the kids we'd save. Potentially.

yeah but look at that guy they just let out of prison recently...he did 19 years for child sex offenses and they would have been mighty hard years with that type of conviction

then low and behold the child he sexually violated, grows up, has kids of her own and is being eaten away by guilt so she comes forward and admits he never did it and the reasons she accused him

at least they can let him out, as of yet there is no way to awake the dead

one innocent can't die via our justice system or there is no justice
