In The Sights: Swiss Arms Black and Green Rifle - Small Dead Animals
A recent post by Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply on a Canadian firearms forum indicates the RCMP is moving to ban a previously non-restricted rifle: Swiss Arms Black and Green Rifles.
These models have been selling in Canada for at least a decade and, although the RCMP have not officially communicated the ban, here’s what I make of it after speaking with Blair Hagen from the NFA.
- Right now, this particular ban is a rumour; however, based on RCMP record as of late, the question is one of immenence not veracity.
- The move is part of a broader re-classification agenda by RCMP, c. 2010 (several rifles already banned [e.g., Norinco Type 97A]. Difference is: Previously banned firearms were restricted, limited in number). RCMP’s target? Semi-auto rifles.
- RCMP’s rationale? Swiss Arms Black and Green Rifles are easily convertible to full-auto.
- RCMP is likely acting alone. Since the end of the long-gun registry… They have been using their own labs to test specific firearms for modification capabilities.
- RCMP’s legal leg? R. v. Hasselwander (Easy modifications to full auto? Ban them.)
I know what you’re thinking… Swiss Arms Black and Green Rifles are non-restricted– there is no record of possession. Any confiscation or compensation (which would be a lot, these puppies cost a pretty penny) would be based on voluntary grounds of the owner.
Not so!
RCMP already indicated how they treat non-registered firearms confiscation during the 1990s (pre-registry days, post C-17 when a swath of semis were banned outright).
RCMP go to retailers, forcibly obtain the permanent firearms sales records and GO TO THE LAST LISTED ADDRESS OF PURCHASER!
Prior to importation, RCMP is required to test firearms. Safe to say they did this with the Swiss over a decade ago. But now they’ve changed their minds. Then the RCMP should wear this– NOT law-abiding gun owners.
Stop the gunstapo before they arrive on your stoop: Spread the word.
