As if we don't already have enough of an issue with the tight control Mr. Harper seems to want to have over Canada and Canadians, he's now going after our public broadcaster.

Bill C-60: Tories Quietly Taking Control Of CBC, Group Alleges

The budget bill would also extend the same powers over the CBC to three other cultural and scientific agencies: the Canada Council for the Arts, the International Development Research Centre and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Liberal MP Scott Brison told The Hill Times he was surprised the government would go this far in compromising the independence of the CBC and the three other institutions.

“These Crown agencies represent public broadcasting, culture and scientific research, three areas where the Conservatives have been antagonistic,” Brison said. “We will thoroughly scrutinize actions by this government towards these agencies.”

The CBC’s public mandate has long been questioned in conservative circles, with many criticizing the network for taking taxpayers’ money while competing with private-sector broadcasters for advertising revenue.

Remember how conservative spokesmen ducked CBC reporters over the in-and-out campaign spending scandal that eventually resulted in conviction for the party. Now the conservatives can use their influence to just call the dogs off.

Not the news, not the documentaries, not the investigative reporting. Just a quick list of not to cut.

HNIC, Sat afternoon blues and late night jazz are real keepers.... I would miss those, but so much of their offerings are just so highly partisan that it is dysfunctional in terms of objectivity.

That and who the f*ck is interested in Anne of Green Gables?

About bloody time.... The next step: Carve up the CBC and sell the component parts to the highest bidder.

Did you think about your answer at all Captain Morgan? Every free country in the world has a public tv and radio
channel. They need it to insure the honesty of the rest of them. Do you want all of Canada's broadcasting to be controlled from outside the country? We lose CBC and that is exactly what we'll have.

The CBC is Canada's Politburo.

They have morphed into something that is so twisted and corrupted itself that it is rotting from the inside.

Do we need all of the programming? No

Going by memory on the last Remembrance Day, 0800 hrs - CBC had a radio program on about Caribbean culture.
Yep - Fitting I would say.

For someone that vehemently posts against Harpy's mudslinging against the pansy-a$$ Turdeau, you sure like flooding CC with your anti-Harpy propaganda. lol You should run for leader of a party. You might get to be official opposition and squawk all you want in the House.

In the west this honesty component was to be served by exactly those public broadcasters. I challenge you to find it with todays CBC. The first two hours of every weekday is stuffed with the worst of propaganda. They virtually never interview Canadians and it seems every story is from Washington, New York or London and no oportunity to inject Israeli whining about their persecution now in the past and in the future is missed. Sure CBC reflects Canada and that reflection is zionist warmongering.

Some of the best news programs available are on publicly funded networks like PBS, BBC and CBC, is it any wonder that at a time when some governments are becoming very concerned with controlling the flow of information for political purposes that public broadcasters are taking so many hits.

They serve broad interests, that's what drives the political extremists nuts. Don't forget it was a lot of CBC reporting that helped bring the Liberal scandals to light, Mr. Harper is probably just taking preemptive action to prevent the same with his government.

One word, robocalls.
