MP defends giving Queen's Jubilee medal to jailed woman

Two convicted criminals, one of them still serving time, have been awarded Queen's Diamond Jubilee medals by a Conservative MP.

Linda Gibbons, a grandmother who has spent 10 years on and off in prison for violating injunctions in front of abortion clinics, and Mary Wagner, who is in jail in Toronto charged with mischief and breaching court orders at abortion clinics, have both received the special medals that commemorate the Queen's 60 years on the throne.

Two convicted criminals! Oh Mercy CBC! Not a whisper about Morgentaler's Order Of Canada?

Not all people in jail are criminals!

Anymore than all people who aren't in jail aren't criminals.

I would think if you are convicted of a crime (and therefore in jail) you are a criminal. There are criminals who have not been caught yet.

Wonderful news. Anyone that defends life SHOULD be rewarded. Human babies are NOT disposable, and abortion on demand should be stopped permanently!

Well then,to take your arguement even further, masterbating should also be banned, that's a waste of a potential baby.
Thos "activists" were put in jail for a reason, they broke the law, they are not heroes to anybody, except the idiots that support them

First of all this is beginning to sound like a proof is a proof is a proof.
One who is in jail might or might not be a criminal it depends on the
offence they committed. Were they in breach of an order or a criminal
breach of an order there is a difference. A breach of an order is for
civil disobedience which is part of the democratic process and the latter
is for repeated offences. I don't think it was made clear in the article.
I question whether they should have been given awards but then some
times people get awards for things I don't agree with and that is just the
way it works in an open society. It is nice to know we can question
anything without going to jail, with some I agree and others I don't but I
am sure someone else has a different opinion.

Many people have been held in jail because they can't raise bail or pay a fine!

So when would you cease to be a criminal? Upon your release? After 6 months? After 50 years?

For me, if you had your conviction overturned (Guy Paul Moran). For you, perhaps there are no criminals.

But since this isn't an official designation, it really doesn't matter. But one should be exempt from getting awards or benifits of society when one is serving time for a crime.

Not sure I agree, if you can be punished for doing something bad, why would that exempt you from being rewarded for doing something good? I would question getting an award for the same deed you are in jail for.

While I'm not a fan of Morgantaler, there are varying opinions about him.

It was probably done by a different entity than did the jailing.
