Genny the dog files to run for Ontario Member of Parliament

By JENNY YUEN, QMI Agency

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. - She might have lost the mayoral race for Clarington, Ont., but Genny the dog now has her sights on the House of Commons.
The five-year-old black lab was denied her papers at running for municipal politics in 2010 on account of her canine genes but her owner Marven Whidden is optimistic she’ll get a reprieve as the riding of Durham looks for a new member of Parliament.
That’s why he’s launched a Facebook page to build up support for Genny.
“What we’d like to see is Genny get more ‘likes’ than the actual candidates out here get votes. It’s a humorous way to show the politicians that we’re not happy with the current state of things.”
Whidden received a letter from the federal government on Sept. 10 stating because there was no current MP in his riding - Conservative Bev Oda resigned last July - whatever concerns that would normally be addressed to Oda be forwarded to a general government address.
The lack of accountability irked him and he yet again thought a dog could do a better job.

“Genny has a lot to offer - dogs wags their tails and not their tongues,” he said. “She’s very loyal to the constituents. She would never lie and is a great listener. And she sits pretty damn good, too.”
Whidden launched the “Genny for MP of Durham” page on Tuesday and since then, his four-legged companion has received upwards to 100 likes. However, the pooch has a bit of competition when it comes to animal politics.
“I found out about this cat in Halifax running for mayor that has 7,500 ‘likes,’” he said. “I’m not against cats but I think it’s a dog-eat-dog world and I think Genny should able to double the cat’s ‘likes.’”
Genny, who is named after the Oshawa Generals junior hockey team, has gained notoriety as far away as India since her run for mayor. The idea for her to run for mayor two years ago stemmed from Whidden finding the elections were boring in his area, just east of Toronto.
“Most of them when she ran for mayor, took it for what it was - a fun story,” said Whidden. “Our current mayor wrote about Genny in his newsletter, basically thanking Genny for the attention she provided Clarington and the elections. But there was one candidate who wasn’t happy about it.”

The Federal Lib's are still without a Leader, aren't they? I'm kind'a out'a touch
much of the time do to employment circumstances so I can pay for this type
of nonsense with my income tax's.

I think she'd make a fine choice for Liberal Leader.

As far as paying for nonsense with income taxes, you are aware that the riding was previously held by Bev (I need a smoking room) Oda right? I'm betting Kibble & Snausages will be a bargain in comparison.

I didn't see where any Party was mentioned.

It wasn't, it's a reflex thing.

I'm sure Genny would be a huge improvement over any of the elected idiots in Ottawa or any provincial capital for that matter. Probably cares more about people than corporate donations, Will not demand a platinum plated pension, will not expect a lucrative lifetime senate appointment if she can't get re-elected, will be happy with a kennel on trips instead of $1000/night hotels.

Genny would get my vote for sure!

Even with a platinum plated pension plan...she live to a maximum of what?
Fifteen years old? I can live with that as for a dog, she's already no spring
chicken....and don't fool yourself into thinking a dog wouldn't appreciate a
nice hotel room with room service.
