Canadians disapprove of the prime minister and ruling Tories

The Prime Minister of Canada seems to have an image problem.

In a new poll, nearly half of all Canadians oppose Stephen Harper and the ruling federal Conservatives.

Thirty-five per cent of Canadians were left with a favourable impression of Harper, while only 34 per cent approved of the job the government's been doing.

The poll shows the Conservative leader has been dealing with a low approval rating since January.

"It's not good news and Tories should be concerned," says Abacus Data senior analyst Alex Monk. "Getting close to that 50 per cent point of disapproval, by some that can be seen as dangerous territory."

The only leader in the poll to leave Canadians with an overall favourable impression was NDP leader Thomas Mulcair.

"Mulcair's undecided numbers were up around 45 per cent, so half of the country hasn't made up its mind yet," he says. "So we'll see how that splits out as Canadians start to learn more about Mr. Mulcair."

It's only an image problem if you care about your image.

What's more important, to do what you think is right, or do what makes you popular?

The nice part about it is that any time a gov't is changed the new one can break all their promises on the premise that they inherited an unsolvable (for a few years) mess. So you are good to go, carry on.......
