The Liberals say a party staff member was responsible for a series of anonymous Internet attacks aimed at Public Safety Minister Vic Toews.

Interim leader Bob Rae says the offending staffer has resigned and he is extending a full apology to Toews.

Two weeks ago, an anonymous Twitter user dished out salacious details of the minister's divorce proceedings to protest his sponsorship of an Internet surveillance bill.

Rae admits the Twitter user was a member of the Liberal research office.

Rae should probably extend an apology towards the NDP as well, as they took the brunt of the heat from the gov't over this.

Wonder what NDP crow tastes like ... eh Baird and gang?

Baird et al were correct in that the Vikileaks originated on Parliament Hill, within the organization of an opposition party. They only targeted the wrong opposition party (by design of the staffer?). It was still a dirty trick by the Liberals, not the CPC.

If you're going to paint a trickster caught with his pants down, at least do it properly..

“Today we have learned that the NDP official opposition has been caught in a nasty, dirty Internet trick. Not only has it stooped to the lowest of the lows, but it has been running this nasty Internet dirty trick campaign with taxpayer money.” In his apology, Baird implied that his error was in relying on media reports, but there was nothing in any media report to remotely justify his allegation that the NDP had been “caught.”

This to me is a non-issue...

Social Media is a perfectly acceptable vehicle for political dissent. National security was not compromised, and no one got hurt, so what's the problem? What was tweeted may have been done so maliciously, but so what...everything was public record, for those who wished to find it.

What's ironic is that Vikileaks30 probably did more to endorse the need for such vile legislation, in the minds of the Cons, than any child pornographer ever could...that to me is the bigger issue.

Don't deflect the topic here MF.... It was one of Rae's staffers that was the culprit on this... No doubt that Rae likely instructed the underling to do the dirty work.

Seeing how Rae has admitted to this and offered an apology to Toews, the only reasonable thing for Rae to do is resign.

I doubt if Rae will go far anyway, he bankrupted a province, are we going to let him start in on a country?

Which lends credibility to the claim that this whole thing has nothing to do with pedobears anyway.

Er, it was Teows, not Rae, that blamed the NDP, and he has already apologized; and I'd assume the NDP has accepted his apology since I have not read about any comments from them since.

The person that did this should be charged with something. I don't like Vic Toews much, but everyone has a right to privacy, even politicians who believe that only purveyors of child porn and their supporters would be against his proposed bill giving the police the right to snoop on everyone without a warrant or just cause.

If you believe this, then should Harper also resign if/when the robocall scandal is traced back to someone on the Conservative party payroll?

I think people should only be held accountable for their actions or lack of action. If Rae was involved, he should resign. But it appears he was not involved and when he became aware that a Liberal researcher was responsible he took action. Its possible that Rae is more involved, but until that's proven, your allegation is unproven.

I would not expect Harper to resign over the robocall scandal unless he played a part in it.
