Any thoughts? Do you like the anthem as a piece of music, or just because it represents Canada?
PS. I'm not seriously suggesting a change or anything...just want peoples' opinion, whether you agree or disagree.

I like it. It's not right in your face like the American anthem, not that there is anything wrong with that. It's more Canadian in the way it pulls out that patriotism and what we stand for without a single mention of bombs or rockets.

Oh Canada certainly doesn't have the emotional power of the USSR anthem, or the US anthem, but it's a perfectly good thing. What I hate is the constant need to change it.

It is supposed to be musically simplistic. O Canada just like Mary Had a Little Lamb was written so damn near anyone can pick up an instrument and half assed play the anthem. That sort of foresight and simplictity is what makes it great.

I vaguely remember the school yard versions as well but I recall it being a place to stand and a place to sh!t..... Must be the western version?

When we lived in Alberta my mother used to sing 'hey ma, I want to go back to Ontario' - ya know that army song 'they say that in the army' but she used to change the words aroudn.

I don't don't like it either. I think it is brassy and pretentious. It's almost impossible to intepret in different ways, like you can do with the American anthem. You basically have to blast it out, full horn.. and that's it.
