Samuel de Champlain is considered the "Father of Quebec" but nobody knows where he
was buried, or what he looked like. There apparently is no authentic pucture or
painting of the man.

I just read an novel by Louise Penny, "Bury Your Dead" in which a good part of the plot was
to do with where Champlain was buried. They still don't know.

It could be that since the French lost the war, Champlain's grave was not too important in the
years following the war and he was sort of forgotten about for a time. You'd think that somebody
would have known and passed the information down.

Have you read Penny's other books? They're a great series, I've really enjoyed them.

Yes I've read all of her works so far. Gamache is the best of many great characters Penny has created. In the five books, all
her great characters are interesting and consistent and I look forward to the next book. Hell, I even look forward to old Ruth's
next angry poem.
