Today is Canadian Forces Day.
In recent weeks and months, we have seen much more of the Canadian Forces than perhaps any of us would like. The best situation would, of course, be one where our Forces are dormant; one where our Forces are prepared, but never needed. However, our world is not quite so kind. As we have seen in places such as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, our Forces are indeed required not only for our own protection, but to protect others — a most noble cause.
Therefore, today, we honour our Forces, and the things they stand for.
Courage.
Honour.
The protection of innocence.
And perhaps, more than anything else, our beloved freedom.
