LEONARD COHEN

Just caught a few minutes of an award show last night with Mr. Cohen being presented with.........an award Don't even know what award; but his acceptance speech was notably brilliant.

Damn, he's one of Canada's best..Still remember "Susanne", the first? hit song, then "Bird on a Wire". He said last night, if he knew where all the hit songs came from, he'd go there more often....

Anyone else like him?/hate him? Canadian Icon?

Of course,he is an icon & our greatest living poet,too. His music and books belong in the collections of every single Canadian.

the weirdest use of his music that i know of was as part of the sound track to Werner Herzogs film FATA MORGANA

Cohen has been my favourite since about '68 when I first heard So Long Marianne at a friend's three-week party. My, that was a good party. I played that song over and over again for hours. Funny, that remains one of my all-time favourite songs, I'll never tire of listening ot it. In fact, I am listening to it ask we speak.

Cohen is decent, too, from all accounts, and honest. He isn't caught up in the celebrity crap. He lives very simply in a small-ish duplex, apparently, and his daughter lives in the other side. He is an amazing human.

He's one of our under appreciated Canadian artists, and the man truely is an artist. I love Closing time, he paints the gritty picture many of us have seen at the end of the night in the bar.
