Which would you rather be, a rich powerful ruler from the past (at least 13th century or before) or poor in the present?

Are you kidding? Present day poor.
Heated home, cable television, not dying of smallpox/TB/black plague (whatever)....far better off than even the wealthy in the 13th century.

Very simple, a rich power ruler from the 13th century wouldn't likely be alive today!
Let me explain, I would be poor today by preference but until I win the lottery
then I want to be rich and uncaring, sort of like the people who pretend to be
caring now, they give away millions, not because they are nice people, no they
want to get a tax receipt, and keep the charities operating so they don't have to
pay their share of the real tax load to run the country.

Poor and younger - Not having to worry about the plague of diseases running rampant- Today you have the opportunity to move up as they say.
Back then it appears there was the knife in the back, the poison in the chalice and yes diseases. And being number 1 meant others wanted to take your place.
