Why are Passports so Expensive?

Gerry H. I AM a Canadian Citizen, and have been one since January 1, 1947, when Canadian Citizenship first became a separate citizenship from being a "British Subject".

I suspect that I have likely been a Canadian citizen for longer than you and your parents combined. My father was a Canadian, his parents were Canadians, all of his grandparents, great grandparents, great-great grandparents had been Canadians.

You can sneer all you choose to do so, but I carry a Valid Canadian Citizenship Card, and whether you like it or not, I am just as Canadian as anyone on this forum.

The medical exam is not free, at least in NB, unless you are having the exam because of a health problem. If you are having an exam for a license, it is not covered by Medicare.

Up until 12 years ago I had ACM class license and when I retired I didn't want to pay the doctor to sign a piece of paper I didn't need so I dropped it to DM which means I can legaly tow a trailer of a certain weight if they ever change the classification of the fifth wheel I haul from recreational vehicle to a bloody heavy trailer, and it's the highest class I can get without a doctor's signature and a recertification writen test every few years.
Since I had and still do have a physical every second year, covered by my health card, my doctor used that as reference to sign the paper, and charged me (I forget exactly how much) for putting the check marks in the proper boxes and his signature at the bottom.
By the way, for those from other provinces the "M" stands for motorcycle, even if I haven't owned one in 18 years, it doesn't cost any extra to have it on.

Let's see, traitor, my paternal relatives arrived in Quebec on September 22, 1653. Just a tad longer than you.

So what date would qualify a guy to be a full fledged Canadian?

I don't understand how your father, grandparents, great grandparents, and great-great grandparents could all have been alive since Jan1, 1947.

Isn't it possible that he was born in 1947 and was a Canadian since his parents were Canadian? He probably couldn't be a Canadian before he was born.

Well, I wouldn't know when my "whitey" ancestors got to Canada, I never did check the family tree further than my grandparents and they died decades before I was born.....
