Sask. actor Gordon Tootoosis passes away

Saskatatchewan-born actor Gordon Tootoosis passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday.
Gordon Tootoosis was born in 1941 on the Poundmaker Reserve, Saskatchewan. He premiered his acting talents in 1973 in the film “Alien Thunder” starring Donald Sutherland. In 1994 he starred along-side Brad Pitt and Sir Anthony Hopkins in the oscar-winning film “Legends of the Fall.”
Guy Lonechild, Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief, said Gordan “was not only a great Canadian actor but a great First Nation Leader.”
The 69-year-old actor worked on almost 90 productions during his 38 year career in the film industry.
He won a Gemini award in 2008 for his collaborative work on Saskatoon’s own animated show “Wapos Bay: The Series.”
He was one of the founding members of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC).
Gordon’s memory will live on and his talents will continue to be seen on screen in two future productions that are set to premier in 2011.
A funeral and celebration of Gordon Tootoosis’s life will take place on Friday at 10:00 a.m. on the Poundmaker Cree Nation.

I don't know many people who don't know him in some way. Canada is so very small really. Everyone knows someone who's met him or worked with him. It's sad to lose such an icon. I can't even fathom the impact for the Poundmaker Reserve.
