smoke and carbon monoxide detectors who's responsible

Just moved into a house and paying rent' The smoke dectors don't work and don't have a carbon monoxide dector who is responsible for this ? I have contacted landlord on numerous occasions with no responds any body know anything about the law on this

Why don't you call your local fire department and ask them. If anyone should know - they should. I think carbon monoxide detors are an optional item but insurance on your house is a tad less if you have them. Our insurance company gave us one.

A call to the "Office of the Rentalsman" would solve the
problem, but wouldn't make your Landlord your buddy.

If it's just a matter of a couple of 9V batteries to make
the smoke detectors work, buy them and keep the
bill, to hand over to the Landlord for reimbursement.

My tenants have given me receipts for all kinds of stuff,
they ask first and then go buy whatever (ceiling fans,
etc...) and give me the receipt, and I either just pay
them of take it off their rent...whatever works for them.

Depending on the province, or at least asking for the rentalsman for a particular province on a search engine should tell you what the landlord's responsibilites are. I know that not that long ago in BC, you could ask the landlord to repair something and after a certain period of time you could have it done (if he/she didn't comply) and you can bill them. I believe you can even do this via deducting the amount from the bill. Look it up first though.
