Rare Earth Rush In Northern BC | Metals and Mining | Financial Articles & Investing News | TheStreet.com

The drilling results Spectrum Mining Corporation released in October 2009 from their Wicheeda rare earth property north of Prince George, British Columbia, have triggered a flourish of activity in the region with other companies trying to cash in on Spectrum's find. Several companies have bought-up claims neighboring Spectrum's property while others are setting up shop in other parts of northern BC. Alpha North Assest Management president and CEO Steve Palmer explained to The Gold Report,There is also a private company called Spectrum Mining with a property in British Columbia. They had some very good drill results for rare earths."
In 2009, when Spectrum sent down eleven exploratory drill holes on two new drilling platforms, all eleven holes hit significant rare earth mineralization. The deposit is still open in all directions and no one is sure how far it continues.
Rare earth specialist Dr. Anthony Mariano has worked as a mineral exploration geologist in forty-five countries and after examining Wicheeda's drill core and rock samples, he was able to produce a high grade REE concentrate. His tests indicate Wicheeda's rare earth is simple and easy to produce compared to most other rare earth deposits, including the dormant world-class mine at Mountain Pass in California. So, it would appear everyone is setting up stakes around Wicheeda for good reason.

There is nothing more corrupt or risky that mineral, particularly gold, speculation. people get really crazy with gold lust and I have witnessed running gun battles on the ground around gold claims in the Cariboo when I lived up there. Gold speculation attracts shysters and con men by the droves. The only way I would invest in gold is to go out and dig it up myself. I wouldn't, though, because gold drives people insane.

without assays or geophysics you wouldnt be able to dig gold out of the ground unless its native gold in quartz veins... You could hold rocks rich enough in gold to mine and not know it....

I think the big thing happening right now is molybdenum, as far as rare earth metals go, and british columbia has a fair amount...

Ill tell you what though, if theres a porphyory deposit around where you live, the rocks from that could hold enough gold in it to be mined. Especially in British columbia

You forget about placer gold and molybdenum is usually accompanied by radio active material so tailings are dangerous when exposed to the environment. The mine at Trout Lake is posing a risk to the Gerard Trout, some of the world's largest trout. But hell, who cares about stupid stuff like that when there is money to be made. Phuk the trout, eh!

placer deposits, native i forgot that setting... I wouldnt doubt that some are found with radioactive minerals, but i think off the top of my head they are found with copper/gold porphyry deposits mostly in british columbia... And it half life product is not overly radioactive
