I finally got down to putting some ideas to paper.
The Northern BC Institute of Alternative Finance, Investment and Trade.
Vision: Fix it.
The strategies for the institute is 7 fold,
1. To investigate solutions to industrial finance problems relating to supply chain development. The Institute will work with financial agencies and institutions to develop best practises in areas of overall community development, making the case that economic development is a significant hedge against portfolio failure.
An example of alternative finance would be the use of a finance tariff to finance log inventory for small sawmillers.
This would require the establishment of a fund to act as a paymaster against invoices presented to be paid on sale of goods. Such a program will not require the development of an office network as monitoring activites can be outsourced.
Alternative Financing will be conducted on the principle of "Know your Client" and all financial dealings will be relationship based. The financing methods will include but are not limited to:
Debt Financing
Supply Chain Financing
Small Capital market through CSNX.
Employee Share Programs.
Cooperative Development
Community Currencies and other forms of Scrip.
2. The institute will develop fundraising strategies of Social Enterprises and will investigate the current B.Corporation movement in the United States to create synergies where they exist.
3.To work with local community members to develop financing solutions for civic projects such as Green Heat initiatives, small scale power production, recreation centres, and civic marketplaces.
Currently, there is a provision for Community Bonds to be considered as a viable option for financing civic initiatives, however there is no delivery agency. The institute will pursue this opportunity.
In other cases, public market opportunities may be apparent or the use of private wealth funds.
4.Through an industrial charity called "The Piecework Charity", create workshops in communities where unemployed and underemployed individuals have access to equipment to use their skills making for market items. This Charity has a mission of assisting individuals in establishing self worth through empowerment.
The concept of prototyping a product and developing simple production systems will be the focus of this organization.
5.The institute will promote the use of small cap. financing for viable Social Enterprises by creating an alternative investment strategy based on steady return with the marketplace creating its intrinsic value.
6.The institute will investigate the effect of debt pressure on decision making in business and in individuals' lives.
7.The institute will be a place for design thinking in Social Enterprise development, creating new business algorythms available for franchisement which will be scaled for the application.
