Aerial view of Kootenay Lake looking from Creston's direction towards Kootenay Bay. That's Crawford Bay to the right, Kaslo up the lake and the West Arm to the left. Kokanee Glacier is to the left out of the picture. And the "world's longest free ferry" wanders back and forth between Kootenay Bay and Balfour (down the West Arm).

Some young friends and I were playing up there one hot August afternoon when I noticed that the sun was way below us. We were in T-shirts. Had to make a mad dash back to the parking lot because it gets really cold up there at night and we were not prepared.

Whoa! I should go searching the sub-forums more often, first time I found this topic.
Great places to smoke a doobie, eh? Anyplace, really. I find that the odd puff can turn the mundane into if not the sublime, at least something far more interesting, no?
The best places I have ever smoked up are the tops of mountains far removed from civilization and a long chopper ride from camp. Nothing has ever spiritually moved me so much as the vista laid out before me and the knowledge that I was the only human being for as far as the eye could see. Places like that, I think, are hard to get to because the journey there teaches you something.
I wish I had photos loaded on my computer of some of the mountains I visited while prospecting - will have to scan some in.
I do have this photo that I took from a friend's deck this fall, shortly after I had a couple of puffs.

There's this new spot I found on the Trans Canada Highway in West Vancouver. This is called "Eagle Bluffs" because they blasted this section of mountain to make way for the Olympic improvements to highway, to the demise of the bald eagle nests. (Bastards)
On one side you see the busy highway and the forested mountains, and behind you is the ocean and some residence of West Van. An awesome spot and I will return for sure.

Dedicated to Cliffy: The view from "Anarchist Mountain", Osoyoos B.C.
The evocatively named mountain references Richard G. Sidley, an Irish settler who arrived in Osoyoos in the 1880's and was appointed Justice of the Peace and Customs Officer. Sidley apparently held divergent political views; he was often called an "anarchist" and the mountain became locally known as the "anarchist's mountain".

Nice pics. Must have been smokin' hot in the Okanagan. Pretty darn hot here today. Went for a ride and couldn't cool off at 110 Km/hr.
