VANCOUVER — The death of a 17-year-old girl in Surrey, B.C., is now being investigated as a homicide by police.
Serena Vermeersch disappeared on Sept. 15, last seen boarding a bus around 8:15 p.m.
Her body was found the next day in Surrey, near a set of train tracks.
"Evidence retrieved by the Surrey RCMP to date supports the theory that Serena was murdered," police said in a statement.
Police said a man was seen leaving the area where the body was found in a pick-up truck, described as a grey or silver Dodge with a canopy and roof rack.
"The male, described as wearing dark clothing, was witnessed crossing the tracks north bound and getting into his vehicle less than an hour prior to locating Serena's body," police said.
Vermeersch was described by police as a "high-risk missing female" at the initial stages when she didn't arrive home the night she went missing.
Seventeen-year-old Serena Vermeersch's death is now being investigated by police as a homicide. (IHIT Photo)
