'Brookswood Six' dog walker charged

Charges have been laid against the dog walker alleged to be behind the deaths of six dogs in Langley, B.C., when they were left inside a hot truck earlier this year.
B.C. SPCA’s Marcie Moriarty said Sunday that Emma Paulson faces five animal-cruelty related charges and one count of mischief in the case now known as the “Brookswood Six.”
One of the charges is “precedent setting,” she said, in that it’s the first time it’s been used.
“It’s basically a positive duty on the part of owners to prevent animals from being in a situation of distress," Moriarty said. "So we’re very pleased with that charge.”
Paulson was initially charged with 18 offences. Investigators concluded the dogs died of heat stroke.
Initially, according to private investigators Petsearchers Canada, Paulson is alleged to have lied by saying the dogs were stolen when she took them out on May 13.
Six days after, the truth of how the dogs died came out.
Among the charges, there is one count “to do with the killing of the dogs,” a count of causing unnecessary pain and suffering, and a count of failing to provide adequate food, water and shelter.
