Christmas pudding
That seriously looks gross.

Not much for Christmas anymore now that all my children are grown but when they were little girls, we'd take a drive around the city and look at the Christmas lights. We'd buy a tree and they would decorate it. My kids love the holiday. Now they have little ones of their own and can enjoy watching them have fun. That's all the holiday meant to me. Watching the kids have fun.

To be honest, it looks like something one may accidentally step on while taking a leisurely walk in the woods.

No, it doesn't. It looks like a Christmas pudding with a sprig of Christmassy holly on top. It tastes even better after you pour brandy on it and set it alight as you carry it to the table.

On my mother's side of the family it's meat pies, besides all the regular stuff. On my father's side, it's cabbage rolls. I remember dad and grampa arguing about how to make them.

Mince pies (I still remember to leave one out along with a glass of milk at night for Santa)

the fruit thing looks good

I will probably make a pumpkin pie again but I'll use the store bought pie crust too lazy these days to make it home made. My youngest girl loves pumpkin pie as do I.

usually my girlfriend and i do about 20 meat pies, give them as gifts but this year my good friend is flying to vancouver for knee surgery,so the plan is on hold.
here in alberta she would have to wait 6 months plus for surgery to her knee, she paid 12,000 dollars, plus her flight and is going to a private clinic,as a matter of fact she is going today,so maybe later on we can do the pies,we drink wine while we are making them, even if we do not do them for xmas,we decided to do them for gift giving,we use her french mother n laws faithfull recipe.

i buy my cabbage roles at the christmas farmers market

Christmas pudding

That seriously looks gross.

This picture doesn't do the pudding justice and doesn't show the brandy sauce that should cover it. Nor can you smell the brandy the pudding had been steeping in for the past year, or the cinnamon, nutmeg or any of the spices used. Christmas pudding is sooooo good, if done right. My grandmother made the best pudding.

Uh, no. Definitely not. Mincemeat is not meat.....it's freaking raisins. Raisins should be outlawed and banished from the land.

Tourtiere is real meat.

Mincemeat USE to have meat in it. way back in the day....

we celebrated scandanavian christmas with my grandparents on the 24th when I was little and they were alive. Then had an english christmas with my other grandmother on the 25th.

As a child, kind of felt spoilt since most of my friends only had either the 24th or the 25th.

My grandmothers use to sometimes compete with baking. Lots of cookies and treats.

Shortbread are still my favourite and rumballs.

We're giving up the traditional turkey this year and going for a roast beast. So tired of spending the whole day cooking a bird. By the time it's done, I'm so sick of the smell and I don't actually feel like eating any of it.

trifle rocks.

I like to make it with little sponge cakes and red and green jello

If you're making Christmas trifle, don't forget to put the brandy in it. The experts usually say one or two tablespoons, but it's much more fun to just pour in half the bottle.

I hear that....although convection roasting the bird shaves hours off the process!

But I may go Prime Rib this year since it'll just be us.
