These rock formations are all around the island.........That's me in the picture btw..
You're looking pretty well preserved. I worked on Gabriola many years ago, first time was when Davy Barrett had a scheme to build a main ferry terminal on Sears Id. at the south end of Gabriola connecting with 2 bridges one to Mudge Id. and another to Duke Point near Harmac. About 5 minutes after we completed the survey the plan was scrapped.-
That rock almost looks volcanic.
I recall years ago right at the north end of Gabriola Island seeing a bunch of millstones just more or less abandoned! What the history of them was I have no clue!
Yep. Conglomerate is the term; a mix of hard and softer rock. Erosive forces like water and wind wears away the softer stuff faster and destabilizes the harder stuff.Hornby has similar formations. I was once told that it is volcanic mud that brought up harder rocks. They eventually fall out which makes the holes.
You get many visits from these "fossilized anthills"?Looks a bit like fossilized ant hills which turn up at my place once in a while.
The are really nice Ammonite fossils along the railways cuts through limestone between Naniamo and Duncan.

You have a excavator that blasts things? Interesting.Ammonite eh, that's interesting, I think I'll read something about it. thanks
The fossils are sometimes turned up by the excavator after the blasting Lester.
