DurkaDurka, just wanted to thank you for the camera recommendations. I took a couple of photos today, and they are soooooooo much better. I missed the hawks ... but I'll catch them tomorrow or the next day. Once again, I have clear, crisp photos. They're still a little under-exposed, but that could be the setting on the day/cloudy etc. I'll check that again.

Thanks again!

Durka , this is why I think you are a genius..... your pictures , with very little effect tell a story.
For someone that has picked this up not that long ago , you are a natural

With exception of two pictures on the front page , they are all hdr .

My subject range seem very limited .

I agree with you whole heartedly on that.

I disagree with you on this. Those shots are quite breathtaking.

Very nice.

You have some great shots in there, El Barto. I love the open sky and the tones and colours you captured in many of them. I would be shooting similar subjects if I wasn't in the city 99% of the time.

Detail is fairly good but depth of field seems off a little.

Like Cliff said, the depth of field is a bit off. Looks like the camera is focusing on the bottom of the stem.

Are you shooting with auto focus on?

I have AV on the lens and the camera ... but I can change the centre of focus on the camera, so maybe I have that set to a corner rather than centre.

Great chalk art!

Hey Durka, have you ever heard of --?

He was a guest artist at Kooter's Native arts and studies camp.

He worked with the kids on video projects.

Kooter's was titled "FBIS", "Frickin big Indian syndrome", lol.

If I post it on YouTube, I'll send you a link.

Well if your going to stagger down the road taking pictures you should hang a glow stick around your neck.

Awesome pics! The homeless man eating lunch at the Layton tribute is award quality.

I have had a camera with me since I was a teenager but never quite got too far in to the technical side of photograpy. But that didnt stop me from taking thousands and thousands of pictures. With digital cams now i will take ten or more shots on different settings of one thing and usually get a couple keepers.I also love videoing lightning storms and then doing screenshots as it just hits the mountaintops.
Nice pics, some have an eye for this kind of thing and you have it.

Both excellent photos. On the one [above the pre-emptive peacekeeping] you mentioned it was a longer exposure giving that misty effect. Was that created by the ripples on the water?

The misty-smooth effect is from the long exposure. Water, when captured over a 15-30 second exposure begins to take on a smoother appearance. especially if it is moving.

It's quite easy to do. All you need is a river/lake, tripod & your DSLR. Set the aperture anywhere from F 5.6- 8, and look for a shutter time of 20-30 seconds. Take the shot and voilą you have glassy water.

I took a crack at it today.

I still need to refine a bit.

You're getting the hang out of it, Mark. Note how the waves are somewhat blurred from the long exposure. Nice
