Ontario family builds giant Transformer sculpture

PORT HOPE, Ont. - An 11-year-old Port Hope, Ont., boy definitely has the biggest toy on the block.
Maximus Dacey's seven-metre-tall sculpture inspired by the movie Transformers, and made from transmissions and auto parts - with the odd door knob thrown in - was completed this week in the driveway of his parent's store, Primitive Designs.
The idea came from Maximus as the family was looking for a way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the location of the store, which sells unusual antiques and crafts from around the world.
"I was in southeast Asia and I was walking through a market when I saw a bunch of small (Transformers) about three feet tall," Maximum said of his inspiration. "I thought, 'Why don't we get a bigger one made,' and my dad really grasped the idea."
The biggest challenge might still be ahead - storing the creation inside for the winter.
Maximus's dad, Ron, said there about three inches of free space from the top of the metal giant to the roof of the building he plans to store it in.
"A little oil and a nudge and it's going in," Ron said, smiling.
