I accidentally ran across people talking about this date like it was really special

December 21, 2012

I believe Nostradamus predicted the end of the world on this day but didn't he also predict the end of the world a few times already?
December 21, 2012 is also the end of the Mayan calendar.
Several other people have predicted the end of the world on that day. Their names escape me for some reason.
On this day there is also a total eclipse of the sun...visible in Northern Australia..

Anybody know anything about this?......Comments?

It is interesting in just how often, and from so many different
sources that date keeps cropping up from. For me it'll be
about the time that I'm 1/2 done my Christmas Shopping
for 2012.

My Favorite is the computer program designed to predict
Stock Market picks. That's an interesting bit of Freakiness.

Apparently this is a very significant day for a few different religions and cultures. I didn't know this when I posted the thread. What the hell. It has to be pretty harmless.

I agree it's interesting, in a comical sort of way Ron, but the facts don't support the theory or the myth.

I wish Dex was here.

He's the one that pointed out the sites to me, that completely and unquestionably smash all these silly claims.

Why don't you take this all in the light-hearted spirit in which it was intended? Surely this is not against your religion.

My bad, and my humblest apologies #juan.

I thought you were being serious. You threw me for a loop. We may have had our differences, but I know you're no moronic nutter.

Again, sorry.

Carry on.

This is interesting, if only because most of these religions were not in contact with each other and all hold this date to be special.

Well isn't this a fine how-do-you-do. Just when I was getting back to a semi-normal state after the Y2K scare, along comes this. I guess I'm just going to have to slit my wrists tonight.

Is that date adjusted for when they took away 10 days in 1582?

It's all dumb numerology. 2012 is =5, means a year of change. 12-21-12 made into letters is ABBAAB, and when you flip that, in Hebrew BA ABBA means "father comes/is coming". There's no shortage of nonsense out there about this date.

It's crap, crap, and more crap.

Finally, something I completely agree with you on!!!

Thank God...pun intended...

While I don't place any mystical value in this, I find it interesting that all the major religions do hold this date as something special. This might be the only bloody thing that all the major religions agree on. It is certainly interesting that there will be a total eclipse of the sun on this date and that this date is also the end of the Mayan calendar. Interesting enough to keep me from standing back and stupidly yelling "crap, crap, and more crap".

We've had predictions of doom going around for thousands of years. They've all been wrong so far, and this one has no more credibility than any of the others. I'm not concerned about it, and I plan to make many rude remarks to a lot of people when 1 January 2013 rolls around and nothing unusual has happened.

Unless of course it has, in which case I'll be very surprised, and probably in no position to make remarks about anything. With my beliefs, or lack of them, there's no way I'm going to be raptured, but I think that's all BS anyway.

So...no sandwich board with "The End Is Near!" for you?

One size fits all....for a nominal fee, I can have one for you by the end of the week....

The scariest thing about Dec 21st 2012 will be that it is 3 days of shopping until Christmas and people are bizarre enough without the pressure of spending money because the TV and a 200 year old book said so but adding in some ancient stone calendar fear from a culture that had no idea other continents and people existed just as our ancestors had no idea they existed. Did our or their myths intertwine in days gone bye and create catastrophe?

Doubtful.

I'm curious about what Christian religions hold this date as special, and what they say is special about it.

That day will have 24 hours, some daylight, some darkness, some will die, some will be born, and hopefully I'll have a dump. Of course that's just us Presbyterians.

I opened this topic because I thought that it was mildly interesting as a subject of light conversation. The date is significant to me if only because when you google just the date you get about 3,740,000 hits. I find it strange that I never heard of it before yesterday.

It's just more end of the world stuff. Google for St. Malachi, and the Secrets of Fatima, as a start, and no doubt you'll find many links that'll let you spread out into the Christian version of this little fantasy.

Or is it Pagan influences surfacing inside Christianity again?
