UFO in Toronto's skies?
First posted: Sunday, July 27, 2014 04:57 PM EDT | Updated: Sunday, July 27, 2014 05:29 PM EDT
Lights in the evening sky triggered an invasion of chatter about UFOs in the Twitterverse on Sunday.
Two videos posted to YouTube by Sarah Chun, of North York, showed a series of unexplained lights hovering over neighbourhoods in the Yonge St.-Sheppard Ave. area on Saturday night.
At least one Toronto Police officer — Const. Craig Brister — attributed the spectacle to a toy helicopter known as a “quadcopter.”
Brister, who was on patrol Saturday night, posted his explaination of the event on Twitter after someone showed him the video of the lights.
Chun, meanwhile, went to her balcony to take a closer look Saturday night, after noticing the lights while working on her laptop.
“I saw something flashing. Especially the diagonal lights, they were kind of shooting upwards,” Chun said in an interview. “I thought it might be a helicopter at first, but then it wasn’t moving, it was just flashing. I didn’t know what it was.”
Many witnesses posted images and videos on social media.
Chatter about a potential alien invasion force led to #ufo and #toronto trending on Twitter.
Sgt. Barry White, of 32 Division, said several officers saw the lights and also thought it may have been a toy helicopter but could not find anyone flying such a craft.
NORAD saw nothing unusual on radar over the skies of Toronto and has received no calls reporting the incident, according to spokesman Julie Roberge.
She added most UFO sightings turn out to be aircraft or other normal phenomena.
“We never usually find anything; there is usually an explanation,” said Roberge.
Michelle Bishop, spokesman for Nav Canada — a private organization that monitors Canadian airspace — said no pilots reported seeing lights over Toronto.
No one reported anything to the Greater Toronto Airport Authority, either, said spokesman Corrinne Madden.

A couple of neighbours saw a UFO flying over our flats last week in the bright blue summer sky. It was weird.

Northern Ontario,

Years ago, in the late 60's to amuse my nephew who was about 9 at the time I got a couple of these dry cleaner bags, still sealed at the top, some balsa wood strips and a bunch of birthday candles....
The end of October, and just a slight breeze, was the perfect temperature, to let about half a dozen of them suckers fly,
You can imagine in the dark evening, the things would go up and fly for a couple of blocks before the candles would burn out and then poof, they would disappear.
Funny how the conversation in the mill cafeteria the next morning was about (flying saucers) UFO's....
