I had first saw the story of security guard Phil Saunders about a week ago, before leaving on vacation. The Edmonton Sun ran a story on this big hearted security guard at Edmonton City Hall, who was taking the time to hand rear a baby parakeet abandoned by its mother due to deformed legs. Apparently, not long after the running of that article, an ultimatum was handed down. Leave the bird at home, or quit. Saunders chose to quit. Now there is a big heart devoted to a very tiny animal.

Bureaucrats can be annoying- sometimes they just do something because they can, they don't put any thought into the application of policy.

Hopefully he will be able to find another job somewhere. As a security guard, I can attest how crappy we are treated by both our employers and the site that we are at.

yeah, I get that. But, at the same time, it's a teeny little parakeet that needs attention only every few hours. it's essentially paralyzed. At a daytime security job. Where's the big issue from an employer's perspective, to allow him to get the parakeet old enough to be on its own?

My employer would be the security company that I work for, and the site would be where I am situated at(a automotive plant). Normally the guards work wherever they are needed, but I am part of a group that work only at the plant. We get set hours, and a better wage. The only problem with this is that we get nailed from two different locations instead of one.

There are worse jobs to be sure, and it isn't a horrible job, but there is a general lack of respect towards security guards as a whole(due to the nature of our job).

Holy Sh!t, Karrie...............That was a joke, ok.....................Jeebus.

Sorry. sorry sorry

On this one, I side with the boss. Leave the goddam bird at home, or find a place for it, or find a different job. He chose the latter. Good luck.

I promise, to state upon further posts, whether or not it is meant to be humorous. Don't want anyone getting their nickers in a not or not, or getting confused, or just taking out a bad day on me.

Sorry for the mixup, Nuggler. I re-read my post and I can see how you thought I meant here. LOL! I would never say anything bad about CC.

Yep. Security guards are treated as lower than low most of the time. Of course, when we help them out or save them from harm we are there for them, but if they don't need us, they don't want us around.
