CALGARY -- Two women are dead and a third is injured in hospital after a stabbing spree at a home in the city’s southeast Sunday night.

One man was arrested and taken into custody.

Police were called to a home in the 6400 block of Penbrooke Dr. S.E. shortly before 6:30 p.m. where they found one victim, a woman in her 30s, who had died in her neighbour's arms at the front of the house.

The neighbour told QMI Agency she heard screaming, followed by "we need an ambulance, she's been hit" and went tearing out of her home because she thought a child had been run over.

She found a woman from a couple of doors down bleeding out in front of the home.

She went for the woman while her fiance went for a first aid kit.

"I saw all the blood," the neighbour said. "I got down beside her ... I put pressure and I just kept telling her 'please stay with us, please just stay with us'."

But it was too late.

"By the time I got (to her) there was nothing," her fiance said.

At one point a child came out of the home and was taken into the care of police.

Other neighbours heard the commotion as well.

Brian Racette said the screaming everyone heard "was like a death scream ... really loud screaming."

And then he saw a neighbour rushing past to try to save another, only to have her "pass away in her arms."

Cops found two other victims inside the home.

Both were suffering stab wounds and taken to hospital where one, a woman also in her 30s, later died.

The third victim was still in hospital Sunday evening, but her condition was not considered life-threatening.

Neighbours said they heard yelling before ambulances and police cruisers arrived — one rushing over to help the dying victim but it was too late.

Police said the suspect had fled the residence, but he was later found in the city and arrested.

Police said the stabbings is not considered random, but did not elaborate.

"We're not looking for anybody else," Det. Torrie Killam said.

Estranged husband charged in Calgary double slaying

CALGARY -- Attacked and stabbed -- allegedly by her estranged husband -- while at her old home to pick up her things, a young woman's new life was cut short.

Police have revealed one of two women killed at a home in the 6400 block of Penbrooke Dr. S.E. Sunday had left her husband about a month before, and returned with her friend, her friend's mother and a little girl.

An altercation occurred inside and the woman and her friend suffered fatal injuries. The landlady from upstairs, trying to intervene, was hurt as well.

The estranged wife died there.

Police have identified the estranged wife's friend, who died in hospital, as Fahmida Velji-Visram, 29.

And the estranged husband now faces two charges of second-degree murder and one of aggravated assault.

Officers found him deeper south in the city.

"They realized he had ingested some type of substance, was suffering from a medical problem and as a result he was transported to hospital to be treated," Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus said.

At the home, the scene outside was a chaotic one.

Neighbour Ebenezer Choevfu said a little girl came out looking for help.

"When the little girl saw my wife she ran over to her, into her arms and was telling my wife, 'My daddy has killed my mom and my auntie'," said Choevfu.

"We walked closer and then saw the aunt, who was just coming out of the basement with blood oozing out of her chest and she fell.

"The girl kept screaming, 'My mommy's inside and she's dead'."

This wasn't the first time police had been to the home.

"They were called to that residence on April 9 in response to a verbal argument," Andrus said.

"At that time there were no indications of a criminal offence and one of the parties indicated they were leaving the residence."

As long as Calgary doesn't become as bad as Cork then you're okay.
