The former commanding officer of CFB Wainwright, Alta, has been found guilty of sexual assault after getting drunk on Remembrance Day 2012.
Major David Yurczyszyn also pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness related to the same offense on Monday when his court martial began, National Defence said in a release Friday.
He will be sentenced in the near future.
Yurczyszyn was the commanding officer at CFB Wainwright until charges were laid.
“The actions of Maj. Yurczyszyn, has caused me to lose confidence in this officer's ability to effectively exercise the functions of command," Brig-Gen. Christian Juneau, commander of Western Canada's 15,000 regular soldiers and reservists, said when Yurczyszyn was charged in May 2013."We expect the highest standard of professionalism and conduct from our leaders, especially those entrusted with command authority.”
The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service charged Maj. David Yurczyszyn -- former commanding officer of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright -- with sexual assault under Canada's Criminal Code, along with disgraceful conduct and drunkenness under Canada's National Defence Act.
