Trade with China benefits the common Chinese. Why punish the people for the actions of their government? Trade with China makes us more interdependent. Allowing more Chinese into Canada increases Canadian influence on the Chinese mind. Why cut all of that off?

Perhaps we should require all Chinese travelers to Canada to pass a knowledge test of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to obtain a permanent exemption from taking the test again. If many states did this, the PRC government wouldn't be too happy.

I would say, based on the behaviour and propaganda about Canada coming from China, right now that either those Chinese travellers don't buy into their government or that they are part of the imperial thugogracy and wouldn't buy into our ethics in which case, do we even want them to visit? .

That would be up to the other country to decide. Given how our own Constitution does not meet the standards of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (See Waldman vs. Canada), it might be a good thing.

What part of Canadian history are you referring to? That Canada signed on to the binding International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and that the separate-school provisions of the Canadian Constitution conflict with that covenant?
