Re: Hypocrisy night classes.
Hey,
Liberty, how are you?
Sorry, I am unsure as to what the premise of this thread is supposed to be — is it dedicated to discussing the ethics and practices of the above-mentioned persons, or are we discussing the ethics and practices of the institutions in our
Parliament of Canada as a whole? The thread just seems somewhat ambiguous, at the moment.
In any case, I would assert that while the
Honourable David Emerson,
P.C.,
M.P., the
Member for Vancouver Kingsway and the
Minister of International Trade, shouldn't have crossed to the
Government of Canada in this situation, as things stand it was his right to do so at his own discretion, and I am a supporter of
Members of Parliament retaining the right to switch parties at their own discretion — I think that our system of governance depends upon such a mechanism in terms of adapting to exigent and unique circumstances.
However, the
Right Honourable Stephen Harper,
P.C.,
M.P., seemed to contradict his own opinions in inviting the Minister to cross — seeing as how he had been so opposed to the crossing of the
Honourable Belinda Stronach,
P.C.,
M.P., the
Member for Newmarket—Aurora and
Transport Critic for Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, despite the fact that it could be argued by way of votes in the election prior to each person crossing that Ms. Stronach's defection had been somewhat more justified. Nonetheless, Mr. Harper should not be blamed for the invitation, since
Doctor Bernard Shapiro, the
Ethics Commissioner for Canada, found in his preliminary investigation that no inducement was made.
There's my two cents.
