 My Opinion Re: World Press Freedom Day

I would think it to be somewhat of an irony for World Press Freedom Day to occur in the midst of our own controversy in relation to the freedom of the press: The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P., the Member for Calgary Southwest and the Prime Minister of Canada, has used his power as the head of government to put restrictions on the media in terms of accessing representatives of the Government of Canada.

Lists of reporters and questions are to be submitted to the Government for authorization and acceptance before being asked; contrary to the wishes of the parents of some of those members of our Canadian Forces abroad, and access to the proceedings of those members' repatriation are being denied to the population of Canada. Tomorrow, when we celebrate the freedom of the press, we should urge ourselves to remember that, even in our own country, these principles can sometimes be under attack.

Press Freedom Day, eh ?

How about, a couple other ideas for Days:

1. Kick the Press Day.
Oh yeah, all political persuasions do that every day.

2. Damn the Reader Day.
We ought to kick the stupidity of readers once in
awhile. We ought to smack the puerile conclusions
right out of their much idolized craniums.

3. Kick the Stupid Voter Day.
Tell each voter they wouldn't do much better than
any politician if they had the fortitude to go
through the gauntlet of abuse and temptations
no Greek God could overcome.

4. Kick the Pontificators Day.
This would be you and me. Like we think we know
what we're talking about ? We think we understand
the context of history or of even today's events and
judge those in the battle fighting ?

5. Kick the Conspiracy Theorists Day.
Enough said on that one.

Some suggestions quite worth noting, jimmoyer; however, for some reason (this might be just me, though), I'm not expecting to see these in a private member's bill any time soon. :(

The Media is like a herd of bulls, if you try and control them as a herd they get mean. Deal with them one on one and their quite pleasant, if you are a cow. Trying to control media access will back fire because the Media will start making stuff up. We better get use to phrases such as "A secret source" or "An insider leak".
