A woman in her 20s was killed when she was hit by a plane Monday near St-Esprit, 45 kilometres north of Montreal.

The woman was mowing the grass at Parachute Montréal on a tractor when the pilot, who did not see her, hit her while trying to land, according to Marc Tessier, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. She was brought to a hospital where she was declared dead in the afternoon.

The pilot was brought to a hospital to be treated for “violent nervous shock” but did not have serious injuries, Tessier said.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision. Reconstruction experts were dispatched, and the Transportation Safety Board deployed a team of investigators to gather information and assess the incident.

The victim’s identity should be revealed Tuesday.
