Avoid the North. Stick to the Southern Alberta farming centers like Olds and Didsbury. Off the top of my head, not many on here are from Southern Alberta, so, you'll have to research for yourself as to which areas are most reasonable for cost of living.

i was looking at airdrie its just north of the city, any idea on the cost of living there?

Not I, no. Like I said, not many on here are from southern Alberta, and I'm really not familiar with the costs of living down there. Check out MSN.ca to see what's available for housing, that should give you a good jumping off point.

Bottom line is there is NO cheap place to live in Alberta. People seem to think that if they live outside the main cities accommodations will be cheap but they are not. It's tough to come here and save a pile of money when so much of your money is going to pay your living expenses.

1st. year heavy duty mechanics make 34.00 / hour more than enough to pay the 800.00/month rent and have a little fun if your young AND single. Waste Systems is hiring ( I saw a sign when I drove by their shop the other day) I knew a guy who worked there and he quit because he couldn't handle the overtime

Plenty of people moving over have found that leaving family wasn't worth the increased pay. It's a huge part of the 'higher cost of living'. Young men especially don't seem to realize how much they'll miss their family. I'm sorry that it's turned out this way for you. I wish I had a solution for you.
