When they are wrong will they take responsibility?

I heard this on the TV news last night
- there is now general agreement from all scientists that global warming is real and burning fossil fuels at least contributes to it, if not causes it.

okaythen! So what about all those "esteemed scientists and important well educated people from industry" that had done so much to deny it? People who run energy companies , who made us almost feel stupid for suggesting that there could be a link? These are people with powerfull intellects and we wanted to give them their due, but they took advantage of that and wated all this time we could have been saving the planet.

the ones we trust, the ones with the power and the wealth, the ones we voted to represent us, and those running the large corporations have been involved in many such situations where the perceived threats or dangers or health issues by the public were denied by them.

How about General Mills', and their role in the OBESITY epidemic with those processed grains with sugar, in a box? - now they dare advertise "healthy whole grains" despite the fact that sugar is still the 2nd most common ingredient and they are still processing the life out of their grains, and who says even whole grains are healthy if carbohydrates are the cause of your weight problem?
If their "new" lineup is now healthy, does it mean their old line-up was NOT? Of course it does. So now is the time to say so, and they would be forgiven.

And of course, pharmaceuticals - did Vioxx makers ever say they are sorry, or come out and take responsiblity for the deaths their pills caused? Or make other pills safer? No, too much liability if they did... [which doesn't make it right to abdictate responsiblity].

And why not, the Physicians who "took the Drug Rep's word for it that these pills were safe, but didn't bother to look into independant opinions from people like "Best Pills Worst Pills" organistations? They allowed themselevs to be brainwashed, and without acknowledging that slip up are PRONE TO DOING IT AGAIN.

The one really important thing about taking responsiblity, and admitting mistakes IS THAT IT MIGHT HELP REDUCE MISTAKES IN THE FUTURE.
Without that admission, we should learn to not trust, not support, and not purchase any of the products produced by anyone who has "been wrong and didn't admit it". Really, at this point, it would be us, the average buyer of stuff, who is responsible if we continue to buy stuff or believe the lies of "those who are proven to be ir-responsible"

Global Warming
pharmaceuticals
obesity causing foods

Go ahead, add some examples where we trusted them , they were wrong, but now are not being responsible about it.

Proud to be in Alberta
karlin, I don't think anyone on either side of the issue ever denied that HUMANS have a part in this issue. And humans use oil and gas, lets not be cute with the fossil fuel crap.

The point is, how much? Every study on both sides of the issue I have ever seen say that if Canada took every vehicle off the roads and quit using gas or oil to heat our homes, we would reduce global warming by less than 2%, as we contribute less than 2% of the total greenhouse gas emissions.

And when the Kyoto supporters start being honest and quit linking greenhouse gasses to pollution, that would also enhance the discussion.

As you may or may not know, with the prevalant oil and gas industry in Alberta, both the industry and the province have been doing an ongoing job of controlling and reducing emissions, even though there is no actual plan from the federal government. In essence, the province and the industry is ahead of everyone in this country, something which does not get much attention outside Alberta, simply because it would not fit in with the redneck, environmentally dangerous perception of Alberta and the oil and gas industry. New technologies are being developed on an almost daily basis, and why? Because it is to the benefit of the oil and gas industry to make their resources last as long as possible. What incentive could they possibly have to have their resources all used up in the next 20 years? With this in mind, there is also massive research into alternative fuel and energy sources being undertaken in order to move forward in the future.

So it should be obvious that Alberta and the oil and gas industry are already taking responsibility.

Now how about going after Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba for their lead emissions? Those three provinces are the three highest lead emitters in North America. And remember, C02 is required for life, lead emissions will kill you.
