What happens to Gomery Report #2 if an Election is now?

Since PM PMartin called the Gomery Commission, will it be nullified if Martin is not the PM anymore?

Is the Pm not the PM when an election is called? Or only if he loses?

I thought I heard something about this issue when it all started...

Or , put another way, I am concerned that an election in December or January will have the effect of Gomery not releasing the final report.

Maybe it won't matter? What will be in it?
Recomendations for this or that, but the finger pointing - BLAME - was in the first report.

Speaking of the first report, It is not really clear who is criminally guilty by that first report - how did that happen?
- didn't he say Chretien was the one responsible, then why is he not under arrest?
- How about the people who took/gave brown envelopoes with cash in them? Was that a criminal offence?

Will those recomendations come from the 2nd report?
And will that never see the light of day because we want an election? that would defeat the whole gomery commission's clout!!

Thanks for clearing this up for me -

Parliament is suspended during elections, so we effectively have no PM during campaigns unless there is a national emergency, in which case the house is recalled. The same could be said of summer and x-mas breaks, btw. The odd thing is how little difference it actually makes.

It won't be released during a campaign. That release would be postponed until after a campaign. It would still come out and the Conservatives and BQ will try to force another election on the issue. It's all they have.

Gomery, just like other commissions like it, does not have a mandate to place criminal blame. The RCMP can be directed by government to investigate any criminal wrongdoing revealed by the inquiry though.

The important part about Gomery's second report is that he's going to make recommendations to keep a similar scandal from occurring again. Mind you, if the NDPs plan is adopted, that wouldn't be necessary either because it would already be taken care of.

TQ Rev, I knew you could help.I am glad there is no reason to not release that 2nd report. I hate when these investigations end without real resolution or consequences.

I guess it is up to the RCMP to file charges then. Anyone who knew what was going on is complicit, anyone who took the envelopes is guilty [once tried].

The gomery report is like an investigative commision.
Commitees generally cease operation. Stopping and starting parliament is a practice that needs to stop, it should be open every day. There should be no 'public' propaganda investigation. It should be CSIS and the RCMP if anyone who investigates. Involving the Judicaiarate before charges were laid was not a good idea. It is ovbvious what needs to be done to stop corruption in government and that is to insure that spending is done openly except 'special' costs. THe facts the liberals can pull a few billion dollars out of their arses just before the elections demostrates there is still 'unknown' reserves. But I'm geussing they ain't unknowns. I find it hard to beleive that it was the 'scandal'' that was the issues. WHAT PROpaganda spending is normally ok?

There are serious issues. The gomery commision really means NOTHING, although gomery as a justice is OBLIGATED to charge anyone who broke the law, as a peace officer, that is lay an information or prosecute. That is part of the issue though nothing can be proven, just like the justice system it is all impertive to lay blame on anyone but yourself. Which is a cliche as we are all society.
