What do you hold the government accountable for on the economic front?

For me:

1. inflation.

2. the Bank lending rate.

3. The debt.

4. Overall economic efficiency (meaning the employment rate, minimal bureaucracy, cost of doing business, easy access to an educated workforce, efficient infrastructure, etc.)

5. Economic stability.

I don't hold the government very accountable for trade surpluses or deficits, economic growth or decline,or the stock markets. The government has some ways to control these, but none that can really turn out well in the long term. Though I hold the government somewhat accountable for taxes, I don't holed it as accountable for those as I do for the other matters listed above since sometimes even a responsible government has no choice but to increase taxes.

Initially I didnt hold Justin accountable for anything but since he has started to take credit for things, I now plan to blame everything on him.

Governments (ours anyway) have almost zero control over the economy as a whole. They can tweak it teenie bits by taxation and a tiny bit more by adjusting the prime lending rate but Canada is an iddy-biddy pool on the edge of a great big ocean.

I might hold the government accountable for extremes of wealth and poverty to a degree, but I don't hold it too accountable for that since I also acknowledge that it has limited control over that. I suppose it has a responsibility for the most destitute.
