Anyone else out there that has a website. It would be nice to have a place to chat about all aspects of it, from programming, graphics, seo, monetization, etc.

Hey Kreskin you old troll you...;-)

I have two, I have an Outdoors forum, that is currently off line, but I wish to revamp its format, layout and name and bring it back soon. I'ld like to use it as both a forum for discussion on Archery hunt and serious Angling, as well as an information portal for landowners, whom I petition, for the use of their lands for hunting.

I'm seriously considering building a small outfitting business and as you approach new landowners with a business card and idea for generating money in the off seasons, it really helps for them to get a feel of you as a both a hunter and a businessman.

The other is, or will be rather for my business. I had one before, but it didn't seem to generate much interest and I let the service laps after securing the domain name.

So I'll be looking for a new provider and some assistance in the near future. Got any ideas?

Hey Bear. I use Canadianwebhosting.com for my provider. I went through a few bad hosts and wanted someone close, so if necessary I could bang on their door. They have been extremely reliable at a reasonable price.

For revamping your site, do you use web design software? I just use notepad and basic css template and then try to dream up anything I can. It never looks flashy but I make do with what I have. What about you?

Thanx, WOW, they do have reasonable rates.

When you say reliable, 99.99% or..?

Well, my first business web site cost me a fair penny. Being completely 'puter' illiterate and all. I paid my host to assemble the page. It wasn't complicated. A simple over view of our services, contact us, a portfolio of past works and brief caption of my mission statement.

My next attempt will likely be the same thing, only I may find a web designer to put something more mature and professional together. The first one came off looking a little kiddi-ish.

As for my forum, I'm not sure what I'll do yet. I like the simplicity of phpbb, but vBulletin has a little more flare. But I need to get a feel for what it is I'm going to need to convey, before I commit.

I'm not sure what they're numbers are but I've used them for a few years now and I'm not sure my site has ever been down, or nothing more than a couple minutes here or there. That was such a breath of fresh air after dealing with some terrible hosts.

I'd love to hire a pro for web design too, but it costs money. I use Invision Power for my forum. On par with vBulletin although I think it's easier to deal with customized themes/skins on vBulletin than Invision.

I've been lurking around their site with great enthusiasm, their prices are excellent considering I was paying twice their rates in US funds with my old host.

No kidding!!!

I'm just afraid to have the end result look like a kid put it together. I already have forum formatting issues to deal with, the last thing I need to worry about, is the appearance being something that throws off the first time viewer. I need clean, simple and grabbing.

You see, what I do is, I approach a farmer/landowner, and pretty much try and convince them to allow me to put paying customers on their land, for the purposes of Hunting and/or Fishing. I'll accept the duty of liability waivers and such, and pay for the right to do so. But what I have found over a few years of selling just myself, my sons and my friends to landowners is, they want to know more. They want to know your ethics, your ability, your reasons and just plainly...you.

But most of these people, are not puter geeks and forum junkies, so what they will eventually get to, has to be of such ease and of such an attraction, that they will actually take the time to look into it and get a better feel of what it is we represent.

I use Invision Power for my forum. On par with vBulletin although I think it's easier to deal with customized themes/skins on vBulletin than Invision.
Is there a link in your profile to your site? D'uh, I'll go check...lol.

OK, I checked, I can't find a link...lol...Can I take a look at your site?

About the hosting, they are pretty reasonable in price considering the reliability they offer (knock on wood, don't want to hex them).

That's an interesting business concept. Keeping it simple would be important.

I sent you a pm.

Would you have any issues with knocking on their doors for moi? I see they're in Vancouver, lol...

Thanxx, it's been fairly well recieved, but to turn a profit, it's a matter of gathering enough landowners. ANd to that, I need to sell myself and the idea. It's easy to sell in the front room, but some people say "Let me think on that a spell". Once I'm gone, so is the sales pitch, you gotta keep you in their mind. Now when they have my business card and the addresses appear in the bottom corner, they have something to assist them in thinking on it.

I sent you a pm.
Got it, thanx. Nice site and I like the topic. I'll take an indepth look around later, but if that topic was a personal issue with you, I will have to rethink my views on that thread way on back about a womans right to choose and how you view life and child bearing. I may have misjudged your position.

Sure will. I think they have in office in Ontario too.

It would be nice if they could also come to you through a referral form on your site. If it's an untapped niche market you could be well positioned. What's in it for them is an additional income source.

That was a fun thread Bear. I was just one opinion of many. Those issues have so many angles I think everyone brings good points.

I'm still going over all their offerings. I'll look and see if they do.

Very true. It is quite untapped in my neck of the woods. I got the idea from an American friend who is running the same type of business in Illinois. He's actually turned enough of a profit to go full time. Not that that's my goal. I love what I already do, but with the wife out of work. This could be the best time to start such an enterprise, with her at the helm.

It was fun, it got personal at times, but it was very enlightening.
