One neighbour was having his roof repaired today (many of those damaged by Hurricane Wilma still aren't repaired). Of the 10 or so guys working I would bet a years salary that at least half are illegal.
Another, who is Puerto Rican and speaks fluent spanish, has told us if we want to get our driveway widened he can get a crew of Mexicans for us to do it cheap.
It's all about the economics. As long as employers can get away with using the illegals as cheap labour and have very little repercussions if they are caught, this problem isn't going to go away.
And, as I've stated elsewhere on the board, as permanent residents who have done things the right way, we really resent those who haven't.
