The white powdery substance in a package opened up by Premier Doug Ford’s wife, Karla, at their Etobicoke home was deemed to be non-lethal.
The contents of the package posed no health risk to the Ford family or the person who delivered the parcel.
But sources say the suspicious package caused a real scare.
“The premier’s house was targeted,” said a source close to the situation. “But everybody is safe.”
Once word came out that it was not a dangerous substance, everybody dropped the story as if it was no longer news.
But when you have someone deliberately sending a powder to a premier’s home, it’s not only news, but concerning.
Toronto Police weren’t taking chances as officers attended in hazmat suits.
Ford issued a statement lauding police officers for their “tremendous work.” He described the substance sent to his home as “a mixture of non-toxic materials.”
How much did this hoax cost Toronto taxpayers? And should the province tolerate seeing their premier’s home terrorized like that?
The truth is the leaders of cities and provinces should be left alone at home. It should be off-limits.

Yet, there are criminals who don’t follow basic rules.
Something similar happened at Premier Kathleen Wynne’s home when protesters left behind some burning candles and a tent. These things may seen funny to those doing them but they are not to the families forced to determine whether they face a real threat.
This latest incident turned out to be more of a false alarm, but it should not be taken lightly.
Toronto Police are not. Someone sending something like this could face criminal charges.
Thankfully, this time it wasn’t a real threat.
