In the wake of the British Empire's victory over Germany and her allies in World War I the USA prepared for war with Great Britain, her Empire and her gargantuan navy.

The USA was concerned it would come into conflict with the then superpower in the years following World War I.

The British, meanwhile, were also predicting war with the Americans but never planned for it.

In the end, World War II erupted in 1939 and America and Britain have been great friends ever since.

You've omitted the part where we weren't even that interested in winning it because, being an empire, we had graver concerns elsewhere. Had the British wanted to beat the Americans they would have done, even with their French allies bailing them out. But the American colonies were not high on Britain's priority list.

Sorry, Americans.

What exactly are you sorry for? Losing?

It's OK, you're our client state now.

Yeah. We lost without trying. You won with French help against an enemy who really didn't give a shit.

That's about the shortest way you can relate to your grandchildren the War of Independence.

Funny how the Americans somehow think they they were something special that the British lost when the British actually saw you as not that important.
