Energy Independence to Confront China and Russia | CPAC 2022

Video

This year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was held amid global turmoil. While Russia invades Ukraine, many say that China remains the bigger threat. However, what are the prerequisites to confronting China and Russia? Experts and lawmakers at the conference seem to agree that energy independence is the way.
I spoke with Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) on the Russia threat and his big focus on bringing domestic manufacturing—particularly for pharmaceuticals—back to the United States, and why he thinks the United States needs to confront China. Braun highlights the long-term threat that is the Chinese regime, and what we can do.
Then I spoke with KT McFarland, former deputy national security adviser, about what Russia and China seek to accomplish. In terms of relative similarities, how does the Ukraine situation translate into the regional power play, and how Taiwan is reacting to the situation as the Chinese Communist Party seeks to invade in the future?

Cost of China’s Intellectual Property Theft

Video

During the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), I got the chance to speak with former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker. Now the co-chairman for America First Policy Institute’s Center for Law & Justice, Whitaker speaks on the intellectual property theft by communist China and how it costs America millions if not billions of dollars. During his time as acting attorney general, Whitaker oversaw the criminal prosecution of Huawei in the United States over theft of technology and fraud.
I also spoke to Ian Prior, who worked in the DOJ as principal deputy director of Public Affairs. He explains how China stole rice and grain technology. He also talks about the need to take the issue seriously, regardless of which side of the aisle you are on.
Together with Whitaker and Prior, we discussed the recent decision by the Justice Department to end the China Initiative.

Biden, Xi’s 1st phone call since invasion; Chinese dissident-turned lawyer killed: NYC

China in Focus

A phone call took place between two of the world’s most powerful leaders. It’s the first time they’ve met since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But will the meeting shift the current situation? A number of Chinese citizens have been charged by U.S. authorities. They’re accused of #Spying on American citizens and plotting a deadly car accident. A Queens lawyer’s death shocks exiled Chinese dissidents in the United States after he was fatally stabbed by a woman from China. China’s pandemic lockdown policies seem to have deja vu. Factories have halted production, and cities are turning into ghost towns—all as China battles its worst virus outbreak in two years. Taiwan is sending more aid for Ukraine. But China isn’t happy, as Beijing officials slam the island for what they called “taking advantage of the difficulties of others.”

‘The CCP is a criminal organization and it needs to be treated as such’: Rep. Perry on China threat

China in Focus – NTD

In this special episode, we hear from Rep. #ScottPerry (R-Pa.) and former Deputy National Security Adviser of the United States #KTMcFarland. Perry said, “The Chinese market is huge, and everybody wants the cash associated with the Chinese market. Sooner or later, we’re going to have to deal with China and their market. And it’s not the Chinese people that we take issue with. It is the communists, the ruling party in China.” And as to ways to counter that, KT McFarland said, “The only way we solve this is a national policy, to say American corporations are not going to invest in Chinese companies that are endangering American national security. American companies cannot, maybe, sell things to Chinese [companies]. We need to have a national policy so that it’s a level playing field for all American companies.”

What Makes Taiwan an ‘Unsinkable Shield’ That the US Can’t Afford to Have Fall to China?

Video

The Wide Angle
Brendon Fallon

U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur called Taiwan the “unsinkable aircraft carrier.” He was referring to its value as a strategic asset in communism-containment during the Cold War. Generations later, Taiwan faces arguably heightened risk of communist invasion: Will China, spurred on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, make a similar move on Taiwan?
What should Taiwan be doing to better defend itself? And what should the world be doing to prevent this strategic asset from falling into Chinese communist hands?

Examining China’s oil imports: Buying from the US; China militarizes South China Sea

China In Focus

Rescuers announce one of two black boxes have been found—following the tragic Boeing plane crash in China. Relatives and other loved ones also arrive on the scene. The United States deals another heavy blow to Chinese officials—this time, targeting their ability to get through the border. A U.S. military admiral says China is arming man-made islands in the South China Sea, as the United States and allies in the region pursue a different goal: “a free and open Indo-Pacific.” We examine China’s oil imports and look at how its purchases from the United States are changing. Did China send weapons to Russia? For the first time, the United States makes an official statement. China is facing a severe COVID-19 outbreak—one of the worst since it first emerged in Wuhan. But how long will Beijing hold onto its strict “zero-cases” policy?

“We can’t win that fight just by pretending we don’t have to compete”Dr. Robert Atkinson On US-China

China Insider

The Senate just approved a $52 billion bill for #Semiconductor chip manufacturing in the United States—part of its version of the United States Innovation and #CompetitionAct. Is this a step toward the United States taking a “whole-of-government” approach when it comes to competition with China? Or are the stakes even high enough to warrant a fight? I spoke to Robert Atkinson, founder and president of the #InformationTechnology and Innovation Foundation, a tech and economic think tank. He details the nature of the U.S.-China economic relationship and what’s at stake when China wins and America loses.

China’s quiet takeover of the Southern Hemisphere

China In Focus

America’s influence in #LatinAmerica is slipping to the Chinese regime. But why is having access to the #SouthernHemisphere so important? In this special report, we look at how the Chinese regime has quietly taken over control in many countries; how trade has won Beijing leverage in political, diplomatic, and military spheres across the region; and how Americans’ daily lives could be turned inside out. And joining us in this episode to help shed light on the topic are Captain #JimFanell, former director of Intelligence and Information Operations for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and Brazilian journalist Paulo Figueiredo.

How the West’s ‘Destructive Games of Self-Immolation’ Derange Society and Empower Dictators

Video

American Thought Leaders
JAN JEKIELEK

From rule of law to liberal democracy to the scientific method, “everything we think of as modernity is Western in origin,” says author and journalist Douglas Murray. “And the West has given them to the rest of the world not because they’re racist, but because they work.”
Murray’s latest book is titled “The War on the West.”
“It’s a war on the West’s history, its traditions. All of its philosophical and religious traditions are being torn down,” Murray says.
And while many in the West engage in these “games of self-immolation,” the rest of the world is watching.
“I suppose some people might think is strange, but I have this view that an American-led century is much more preferable to a Chinese Communist Party-led century.”

Shanghai COVID-19 death toll raises questions; Report: China is the largest source of fake goods

China In Focus

Fake Chanel bags, Prada shoes, and 3M face masks—what’s happening with these counterfeits from China trying to make their way into the United States? An old rule has been exploited, the United States suffers a great loss, and the beneficiaries are mainly Chinese companies. Shanghai’s official infection rates are raising questions. Many have said they don’t feel the numbers are trustworthy, citing Chinese authorities’ cover-up in Wuhan. The Hollywood movie “Uncharted” is banned in the Philippines. But for the American audience, the bug might be too small to see. China has reported what appears to be the world’s first known human case of H3N8 bird flu. China’s health commission said the infected person is a 4-year-old boy.

How American Elites Are Being Captured By the Chinese Communist Party: Peter Schweizer

Video

Facts Matter
Roman Balmakov

“Elite capture” is a high-level strategy used by Chinese Communist Party, China’s intelligence apparatus, as well as those involved in quasi-private business ventures.
The idea is simple: by tempting another country’s elite with money, access, and favors, you can move them to see their interests as being either intertwined or even the same as the interests of China.
In order to see how this strategy works in practice, we sat down with Peter Schweizer, a world-renowned author, researcher, investigative journalist, and president of the Government Accountability Institute.
His most recent best-selling book, “Red Handed,” goes into great depth to expose the Chinese communist strategy of “elite capture” as it applies to five sectors of America’s institutions: big tech, wall street, politics, entertainment, and education.
