UCP to stop charging 13 cent per litre fuel tax April 1 and will give $150 electricity rebates to help Albertans pay for the high bills they faced this winter.

Now we will see what the Alberta NDP has to say about this. Let's see them put a negative spin on this one.

April 1st?? 🤔 No joke eh???

I’m neither Albertan or NDP, but I’ll try Gerryh. The April Fools date for this implementation isn’t an accident either.

It’s a date chosen to drop the road tax collected on Alberta sold fuels coincides with the federal governments increase in the carbon tax, So basically what’s happening is it’s going to be a hopefully net wash in what’s paid out by Alberta residents, but instead of their taxes going towards their own road maintenance in their own province to maintain their own infrastructure…. It’s gonna go into federal coffers into some black hole due to this carbon feel good tax and it will be gone forever. Alberta is an energy producing province, and this is just one more way for it to be financially pillaged federally (carbon tax) to the detriment of the province. Feel familiar?

Think of it as an extension of equalization payments where your money leaves Alberta never to return. So not only will you be punished in your behaviour modifying carbon tax to incentivize you to drive less and work less (= transportation outside of core urban areas) and heat you home less (‘cuz how dare you heat your home you bastards!), but now you will have less money that you’ve already paid going towards maintaining the infrastructure of your road system so that it can fall into dilapidation. Good times….

So is this the UPC using your own tax money to purchase your vote? Perhaps to some extent yes, but other than your tax money, what other tools that they have to try and insulate you from this federal money suck that comes in increasing waves every April fools day? They could try to fight the federal government and court over this but…..it’s already been tried that and it didn’t go well….so oh well… so short term this is in place (suspending the road tax) to protect you but long-term if it lasts long-term it’s gonna make Alberta’s road system look like Saskatchewan’s (too many roads but currently not enough revenue to maintain them). This is just my view from the outside looking in.
