Twelve-year-old boy stabbed to death in downtown Toronto hotel

A 12-year-old boy was stabbed to death at a downtown Toronto hotel on Wednesday morning, police say.

Police say they were called to the Cambridge Suites Hotel at Richmond and Yonge Streets around 5:50 a.m., where they found the boy with at least one stab wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead in hospital.

CityNews posted a photo of a officers at the hotel escorting a man in handcuffs into a police cruiser.

Police said the man is “being investigated,” but would not comment on whether he knew the victim.

“We believe we have all persons involved accounted for,” Det. Omar Khan said at the scene. “At this point we don’t believe there’s a threat to public safety.”

Laura Proano, a mother of four, was staying on the 18th floor of the hotel on a visit to Toronto from Peru.

“I know that Canada is very peaceful. In my country, I’m from Peru, you hear about this kind of thing,” she said. “I know it’s not normal. I’m sad because we should be in peace in a nice world, but there’s evil.”

“I’m sad. I’m sad for the mother. I hope she finds peace.”
